Organisation

Kerala State Housing Board has been constituted by the Government of Kerala by Act 19 of 1971, to provide for the organized direction, planning and execution of housing and improvement schemes in the state of Kerala. The business of the Board is governed by a Director Board headed by a Chairman, official members appointed by the Government of Kerala and non-official members nominated by the State Government.  The Housing Commissioner to the Government of Kerala is the ex-officio Secretary of the Kerala State Housing Board.The Administration is vested in the Board which constitute of 17 members namely The Chairman (ex-officio), Housing commissioner cum ex-officio secretary, 4 official members nominated by the govt, and 11 non-official members nominated by the Govt.

The Board consists of 39 offices with its Head office at Thiruvananthapuram. There are 3 Regional offices at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikkode, 14 division offices in all 14 districts, 2 project divisions in Trivandrum and Kochi, and branch offices in all important places. The Technical wing consists of 175 Engineers  up to the Chief Engineer and the ministerial wing consists of 350 officers/ staff  up to the Additional Secretary.

During the last  37 years of its service to society the Kerala State Housing Board has completed the construction of 164 public housing schemes (multi shoreyed flats) comprising 12310 units for the various income categories, 25 Nos. of office cum commercial complexes, 3 Nos. of Working Women’s Hostels, 7 Nos. of Rental Housing Schemes comprising 1835 units for the State Government and 105 Nos. of housing complexes comprising 3600 units for the Economically Weaker Sections.  In addition, the Board has actively participated and satisfactorily completed the time bound rehabilitation of erthquake disaster victims at Lathur (Maharashtra) and Azheekkal (Kollam) and also for the AHADS project at Attappadi (Palakkad).

Kerala State Housing Board is the top most   institution in the housing sector of Kerala and has provided assistance to 6.5 lakhs of people to build their homes.In addition the Board has so far completed 25 Commercial / Office building projects covering a total plinth area of about 4.75 lakhs sq.feet.
